Implementation Tips
The authors recommend that other districts interested in summer programming consider such steps as:
- Collecting outcomes data for summer programming and using it to create and share messages that focus on key academic objectives
- Exposing district and school staff to the culture of summer programming
- Forming a planning team including all relevant departments
- Designating one staff member to manage the planning process
- Incorporating summer responsibilities into job descriptions for new hires.
Additionally, The Summer Learning Toolkit provides evidence-based, hands-on tools and guidance for delivering effective programs.
