Implementation Tips
- Offer programs that last at least five weeks and include at least three hours of academics daily.
- Provide a mix of engaging academic and enrichment activities.
- Make sure instruction is strong. Two ways to do this? Hire effective teachers. Give them a curriculum that is aligned to the school year, reflects state standards, and meets the needs of all participating students.
- Protect time for academics. For example, during academic blocks avoid both meal breaks and early dismissals.
- Reach out to admitted students and encourage them to show up for the program. Making home visits or playing videos at in-school information sessions are two ways to do this.
