Implementation Tips
To effectively carry out a social-emotional learning program, the authors recommend:
- Allotting enough time in the daily schedule for SEL
- Extending SEL beyond the classroom. That means playgrounds, lunchrooms, hallways and bathrooms, and out-of-school settings—in short, everywhere.
- Providing opportunities to practice SEL skills in everyday interactions and routines
- Prioritizing training and support for teachers and other adults who work with young people
- Including staff, families, and community members in decisions about SEL programming
- Using data to inform decision making.
