Quote

If we can have a continuous through line that is speaking social, emotional, academic learning for these students, we are increasing their opportunity to be successful both in school and out of school and in life. And, when we can do the heavy lifting on our part and have continuity of language, continuity of rituals and routines, behavior structures, and positive supports, we are creating an environment where our students can really thrive.

About the Series

Partnerships for Social Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI) is a comprehensive, multiyear initiative exploring whether and how children can benefit from intentional partnerships between schools and out-of-school time programs focused on building social and emotional skills – and what it takes to do the work. A report by the RAND Corporation offers important insights from the first two years of the initiative at a time when interest in SEL is outstripping empirical guidance about how to implement these programs and practices.

This episode explores what to look for in schools and OST programs working to build children’s SEL skills, why they created a new tool used during instructional “walk throughs” and how they use professional development and rituals to create consistency in SEL instruction across learning environments.
