Implementation Tips

  • Programs should make sure that the outcomes they measure are the same ones they actually aim for. A logic model or theory of change that reflects what the program hopes to achieve can guide this.

  • Programs can disaggregate data by race or other variables to identify disparities in outcomes. They can also incorporate into their logic model the equity skills they hope to foster in young people. Then they need to come up with the right curriculum and how to assess its results.

  • Funders can play a role in helping OST programs measure their efforts effectively. One possibility is to support staff training on the ins and outs of data collection and use.
