khalil murrell
khalil murrell joined The Wallace Foundation in 2024 as a program officer in the arts. He is responsible for helping to lead the Advancing Well-Being in the Arts Initiative, which supports and seeks to learn more about arts organizations founded by, with, and for communities of color.
murrell came to Wallace from America SCORES NY, where he served as chief operations officer and interim executive director. Previously, he was a consultant for more than two dozen arts and social service nonprofits, focusing on staff development, operational excellence, and program quality. He also served as program coordinator for the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, where he oversaw a statewide literary arts program and assisted with organizing the biennial Dodge Poetry Festival. murrell brings a range of other experiences to his role at Wallace, including work as a classroom teacher, teaching artist, and various roles in arts programming and leadership.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Temple University, an M.F.A. from Sarah Lawrence College, and an M.A. in sociology of education (with an education policy concentration) from Teachers College. He enjoys international cuisine, 90s music, and traveling to film festivals across the country.
