
Harrison Peters
Harrison Peters is the CEO and co-founder of Men of Color in Educational Leadership (MCEL), a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing the representation, retention, and impact of male leaders of color in education. A proud U.S. Navy veteran and member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Peters brings over two decades of experience in K–12 education, having served in major urban districts including Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Chicago, Houston, and Hillsborough County. Notably, he served as the State Turnaround Superintendent in Rhode Island. His leadership has been marked by transformative improvements in student outcomes.
Peters began his career as a 4th and 5th-grade teacher in Florida and rose through the ranks as principal, assistant superintendent, and chief of schools. He holds degrees in education and leadership from the University of West Florida, Nova Southeastern University, and the University of South Florida. Inspired by his personal journey and the educators who shaped his life, Peters founded MCEL to build a national community of leaders committed to transforming schools through quality, quantity, and care.
