Claudia DeMegret

Senior Program Officer, Youth Development

​As a senior program officer in the Learning and Enrichment unit at The Wallace Foundation, Claudia DeMegret oversees grants primarily in the areas of expanded and summer learning opportunities and strengthening financial management systems for afterschool providers. Before joining Wallace in September 2012, she served for close to 10 years as the director of education at the City Parks Foundation, where she developed program strategies and implemented classroom, out-of-school and professional development programs throughout New York City.

 

Most of her 20 years in education have been spent teaching, designing, managing and researching a cross-section of programs. DeMegret served as the director of youth and technology learning centers at the National Puerto Rican Forum, where she administered community and school-based programs designed to improve educational outcomes; there, she also led capacity-building initiatives, focused on organizational strategy and helped oversee workforce development and adult education programs. Previously, she directed AmeriCorps and after-school programs in Washington, D.C. At the National Coalition of Hispanic Health and Human Services Organizations and the National Council of La Raza, DeMegret conducted research and training on effective teen pregnancy prevention and AIDS prevention efforts. She also delivered technical assistance to youth service providers nationwide.

 

DeMegret received her undergraduate degree in sociology and Latin American studies from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and her master's degree in urban education from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York in New York City.
