Claudia DeMegret

Senior Program Officer, Youth Development

Claudia DeMegret joined Wallace in 2012 and is now a senior program officer in youth development. She manages grants across our portfolio in the youth-serving ecosystem, including Advancing Opportunities for Adolescents, an initiative to support youth-focused cross-sector partnerships improve outcomes for young people.  

 

DeMegret’s career follows the arc of the youth development field, which was not yet named when she started and has evolved from operating programs to building systems.  Before joining Wallace, she served for close to ten years as the director of education at the City Parks Foundation, where she drove strategy and executed classroom, out-of-school, and professional development programs throughout New York City.

 

Prior to that, she was director of youth and technology learning centers at the National Puerto Rican Forum, where she administered programs designed to improve educational outcomes. She also led capacity-building initiatives, focused on organizational strategy, and helped oversee workforce development and adult education programs. Previously, she directed AmeriCorps and afterschool programs in Washington, D.C. Prior roles also included stints with the National Alliance for Hispanic Health and Unidos USA delivering technical assistance to communities nationally.  

 

DeMegret received her undergraduate degree in sociology and Latin American Studies from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and her master's degree in urban education from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York.  She resides in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn in an intergenerational household with her teenage son, partner, father, and two cats.
